For those unaware, the ‘Companion Mode’ feature was officially rolled out by WhatsApp for its Android users last month, which allows users to link a single account at once to up to five smartphones; a primary device and four companion devices. This feature enables users to send as well as receive calls and messages across all their devices while remaining end-to-end encrypted, even on linked devices. The Companion Mode For iOS is available in the latest WhatsApp for iOS v23.10.76, which can be downloaded via the Apple App Store. The new functionality will now allow an iPhone user to link an existing WhatsApp account with up to four other devices, which can include both iPhone and Android. Just like on Android, the iOS version of the messaging app will sync your history and deliver all your messages to all of your connected devices while maintaining the same level of security and privacy as the primary device. However, the ability to manage broadcast lists and post status updates from the linked iPhone is available only on the “primary” device, just like Android. In addition, the new WhatsApp version has the ability to save messages from disappearing. However, using the Keep message option will notify the sender about your action. It also provides support for autoplay GIFs without the need to tap on the message.

How To Set Up Your Companion Device

To link a companion device to your primary WhatsApp account, download WhatsApp and sign in to your existing account by choosing the “link the device to an existing account” option on the phone number registration screen. A QR code generated by the secondary device will appear on the screen, which you will need to scan from your primary WhatsApp device via the “Link with QR Code” option. Once done, your WhatsApp account will be linked and all your conversations will be safely synced to the companion device.

The Meta-owned messaging service has begun the stable rollout of Companion Mode for iOS feature and should be available to all users over the coming weeks. Ensure that your WhatsApp is updated. This feature is also available after installing the latest version of WhatsApp Business for iOS app.
